A7X Drummer Found Dead.

Going to a gig, going to another festival, or want to tell people about the awesome riff that you just worked out.

:(

I didn't really take to Avenged Sevenfold, although admittedly do love a few of their tracks - but it's still so sad to hear about 'The Rev'. I don't believe 'natural causes' for a second, tbh.

Sad times for the world of metal and rock. He was an awesome drummer and a great guy. Even if it was natural causes, the years of mega drugs would have shortened his life.

RIP Rev

Hell I cried, he was an amazing drummer with so much talent. Part of one of my favorite bands, and the sole reason I want to learn how to play drums.

He was supposedly a hard drug guy froma young age, mroe aless probabaly overdoes or medical conditions stemming from the drugs. didn't really enjoy avenged sevenfold.

 I'm devastated, he was one of the major influences on my drumming, and will continue to be as I learn more of his songs. Huge loss for music :(

Wow I only just heard and so shocked! I'm so glad I went to Sonisphere 09 now, if I didn't I would of never seen him live.
I just can't believe it tbh, so young as well :(
RIP rev, you'll be missed.
Critical acclaim will never be the same without your vocals :(

They were the reason I was at Soni and not download.
I'm shocked, he was only 28.
My heart goes out to the rest of the band, his wife and his family.

This really does blow, big time.
I was at sonisphere this year and missed out on a7x because i was at the front for metallica and didnt wanna leave that spot, even though they are my second favourite band, i thought to myself, aveenged aint going anywhere, ill be able to catch them somee other time, damn i was wrong. I suppose this is a massive wake up call showing what hard drugs can really do.
R.I.P The Rev,
Hope to see you when im rocking the afterlife <3

Apparently it was of natural causes, which makes no sense considering he was only 28. Still in shock.

I'm guessing his liver gave in or something like that as the damage must have already been done or he was ill for some other reason

Metal Hammer wrote:venged Sevenfold drummer James Owen Sullivan aka The Rev has been confirmed dead, dying on Monday of natural causes.

News of Jimmy Sullivan’s sudden death on Monday has left left family, friends and fans in shock tonight – many of whom are only learning of the news this morning. Sullivan is survived by wife Leana MacFadden aka Leana Silver and died at his home in South California.

Sullivan served as both singer and drummer for Avenged Sevenfold who achieved much fame and acclaim in 2005 with their City Of Evil album.

Reuters are reporting that “The Rev appeared to have died of natural causes, Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo told the Orange County Register. He was 28. The Orange County Coroner’s Office is investigating, the paper said.”

A statement on the band’s website reads: “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world’s best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy’s family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time. Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you.”

The Rev was a co-founder of the band which started in 1999. As any reader of Metal Hammer will know the band became notorious for their drug-taking and other rock’n'roll pursuits, but have recently attempted to live down its reputation for debauchery. Reuters stated that “Sullivan, in particular, had raised eyebrows after a 2006 cover story in metal magazine Revolver described his penchant for cocaine and other drugs.”

Avenged were currently working on their latest album, due for release in 2010.

Metal Hammer’s thoughts go out to The Rev’s friends and family.

Avenged were gooseberry and from interviews and stuff he seemed like a bit of a prick, but young people dying is never a good thing

Wonder how many more deaths we can fit in before the end of 2009

The only drugs i've ever seen kill are booze and skag. Don't believe natural causes for a second but A7X were way too active to have a junkie in their ranks. Guess it must have been the liquor. RIP dude, thoughts with your family.

I found this really sad and unexpected, never imagined someone as young as him to just die suddenly like that when people like Lemmy and Ozzy are still rocking. I was never a huge fan of A7X, I wasn't impressed with them at all at soni and I always though they were quite over rated for what they do, especially the guitarists.
But the Rev was the one guy in the band who i respected and didn't think was a cock. He was a great drummer, a vital piece towards their band and they will never be the same. I'm sure they'll pull through though, Metallica carried on without Cliff and Ozzy was ok in the end without Randy Rhoads ect.

RIP mate, and thank you for your massive contribution to music.

I wasnt the biggest fan of theirs.. mainly due to some members of the band having over inflated egos in my opinion but he was a really good drummer and seemed down to earth. RIP
